A PhD blog about urban governance, spatial planning, and user engagement
My name is Ian Babelon and am starting a Phd on the topic of virtual city models for public engagement at the Dept of Architecture and the Built Environment, Northumbria University, Newcastle, UK. The project started in October 2015 and is expected to last 3 years.
I have a broad interest in sustainable spatial planning, particularly effective methods for public engagement, Public Participation GIS, Impact Assessment, crowdsourcing, planning for renewable energies, sustainably productive landscapes, organic farming, and collaborative learning and research. I have a BSc in Anthropology, a first MSc in Human Geography, and a second in Urban Planning. The first two are from the UK, the third from Sweden.
PhDs are often described as journeys: the original, specific contribution to new knowledge will be determined along the way, although some clear viewsheds are already available.
You can find me on Researchgate, where I will post links to research publications as the work goes along.
